Supporting the British Hen Welfare Trust
Having adopted a number of hens from the British Hen Welfare Trust over the past few years, I’ve seen the importance of the work that they do in re-homing ex-commercial laying hens. They arrive nervous and overwhelmed, but within a couple of months they gain confidence and become colourful, healthy birds, full of life and character. Using my wooden birds to support the work of the British Hen Welfare Trust felt like a natural fit, so throughout 2026 I will be donating 10% of all sales from my birds to the charity.
The trust says:
“Chickens are the underdog of the animal world – often out of sight, out of mind. Since 2005, the British Hen Welfare Trust has been changing that and, to date, has found homes for more than ONE MILLION ex-commercial laying hens destined for slaughter. The charity relies on its network of 1,400 compassionate volunteers, plus its 50 pop-up host sites around the UK, to carry out its lifesaving work. As well as rehoming, the BHWT helps improve veterinary care for pet hens, educates the next generation of hen keepers and promotes the use of hens as therapy animals in schools, care homes and even prisons. Its work is changing hearts and minds, one hen at a time.”
